STOP RACIAL PROFILING

Minha esposa Vanessa Mendes escreveu um texto(em inglês) que comenta sobre a lamentável política racial Norte-Americana(em especial aos imigrantes latinos). Segue abaixo seu desabafo...

I believe the government ought to do something about the immigration reform, no doubt about it. The American people have been neglected for years from the debate and mislead by the conservative media.   It may come as a surprise, but the United States  benefits greatly by allowing foreign nationals to live, study and work in the country.

A study released by the Public Institute of California found that immigrants who arrived in the US between 1990 and 2004 increased wages of native workers by an average of   4%. By increasing consumer demand, immigrants generate economic growth  which benefits the middle-class. (small business and local communities)

An attempt by an American town  to deprive illegal immigrants of access of health care and housing has sparked a heated debate about immigration  in the country grappling  with an economic crisis.

The pattern and practice of race profiling in immigration deeply harms and marginalizes the Latino community as a whole. It  singles them out as a group and reinforces an unlawful practice  which is against the constitution.

*** Amnesty International USA (AIUSA) defines racial profiling as the targeting of individuals and groups by law enforcement officials, even partially, on the basis of race, ethnicity, national origin, or religion, except when there is trustworthy information, relevant to the locality and timeframe, that links persons belonging to one of the aforementioned groups to an identified criminal incident or scheme.
